President’s game to be held on SUNDAY 5th September.
We now look forward to the President’s game to be held on SUNDAY 5th September, starting at 1.00pm. This popular annual event marks the end of the season and it is always good to welcome back past club members who come along to play on the PresIdent’s side. Mike was a founder member in 1983 and has strongly supported the Club over the years as a Chairman, player, and grounds man. We thank him for his continued interest and his recent, very generous donation Let’s hope the sun shines for us all on his special day. There will be a raffle again and any prizes will be most welcome. If our plans come to fruition, this could be the last time that the old shiplap shed is used. It was formally opened by former club Chairman, Ken Reeve, in 1992 and although it has served us well, it is no longer fit for purpose. Watch this space!
The End of Season meeting will be held on Thursday 23rd. September, 8.00pm in the Angel, the Presentation evening on Saturday 23rd October and the AGM on Thursday 28th October.

NEW COACHING EQUIPMENT FOR YOUNGSTERS
Swanton Morley Cricket Club acknowledges with gratitude a generous “Grassroots Grant” award of £2,000 from the Norfolk Community Foundation. To this has been added £150 raised from local businesses, sponsoring adverts to be included in the club’s annual handbook. £1000 is specifically towards the cost of training more members to qualify as cricket coaches, which will enable the club to welcome more young people to the training sessions. £490 will enable others to attend child protection, first aid and club welfare officer courses and also pay for some indoor cricket coaching sessions during the winter months. The remaining £660 has been spent in purchasing a range of innovative, attractive coaching equipment, which will be used for the youngsters’ training sessions, mainly on Monday evenings. These will continue during the whole of August, including the Bank Holiday and all boys and girls from aged 8-14 are invited to come along and enjoy the new facilities.

Swanton Morley to host Workshop for Norfolk Coaches
Coaches Association to run two Workshops for Norfolk Coaches
Several of Norfolk’s top coaches will be demonstrating the latest techniques and practices in cricket coaching, to enable the Cricket Coaching community in Norfolk to stay at the forefront of developing young talent in Norfolk. The Workshops will be lead by Chris Brown who recently gained his Level 4 coaching qualification. He will be supported by 3-4 other top coaches from around the county. Any qualified coach is welcome to attend the workshops. although there will be a small charge (£5) for any coach who is not a member of the ECB Coaches Association. (All ECB CA members are able to attend free of charge, as are any candidates from UKCC1 and UKCC2 courses in winter 2009-10).
The coaches will each run a ’station’ on a particular specialist area, such as batting, fast bowling, fielding, spin bowling and strength and conditioning. They will be coaching groups of young players, demonstrating ideas and drills for coaches to take back to their clubs. The coaches will be available to answer questions from any coaches attending. Coaches attending the workshops can rotate around the stations to view all practice areas.
The session will be held as follows:
Monday 14th June 2010, 6pm – 8pm at Swanton Morley CC
Monday 12th July 2010, 6pm – 8pm at Brooke CC
This follows up from a very successful workshop that was run in 2009 at Great Melton Cricket Club (pictured right). It is hoped that local Norfolk coaches will make use of these excellent opportunities to learn from Norfolk’s best coaches, and develop their own skills further.
