Welcome to the SWANTON MORLEY CRICKET CLUB website!

This Olympic year 2012 is an exciting time for all those who watch or participate in sport. It is also a year of great change for this cricket club. During the 2011 season we had the positive action of the splendid new pavilion being built, which was officially opened last September by Mr Peter Parfitt, ex-Middlesex and England player, who was born locally. He stressed how very important village cricket is and how everyone involved has a vital role to play, from the members who actually play the game to all those who support them in countless ways and he strongly urged us “never to let this club fall into disuse.” Unfortunately, last year, there was also the disappointment of losing several key players and we are now actively seeking to recruit more members. Having played in the West Norfolk Cricket League for over 20 years, it was decided at the AGM to have a fresh start and a change in direction and seek to join the Norfolk Cricket League. Our application was duly accepted and so, on Saturdays, our teams will now be playing in Divisions 6 and 7 of that league and on Sundays, in Division 3 of the Mid Norfolk Sunday League. We look forward to visiting different areas of the county plus welcoming new teams to our well appointed ground.

The aim of the club is to continue to expand the youth section by providing structured coaching sessions and competitive cricket for under 11, 13 and 15 boys teams. It is also our intention, now that we have appropriate changing facilities, to promote and coach ladies and girls teams. This is an exciting new venture for us and if you are interested, please contact me. You will be made most welcome.

While the excellent new facilities at the club will offer obvious material benefits, it is still the responsibility of existing members, and new ones, to keep alive that intangible, essential spirit of camaraderie and infectious enthusiasm which has served us so well in the past.

Let us all do our utmost to: “KEEP VILLAGE CRICKET ALIVE!”
